Project Coordinator, New Construction Program
Energy Efficiency Services

Albany Office

NYSERDA seeks a Project Coordinator to provide administrative and contractual support for the New Construction Program.  The incumbent will work closely with the other Project Coordinators and the Project Managers in the program.

The Project Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Administer the application process including: reviewing for completeness, entering information into the program database systems, and conducting quality assurance for data integrity
  • Administer the technical assistance process including: creating agreements, tracking/monitoring progress, entering information into program database systems, and processing invoices
  • Administer the incentive process including: encumbering incentives, tracking/monitoring progress, entering information into program database systems, and processing incentive payment requests, extension requests, and cancellations
  • Assist Project Managers with developing and managing solicitations and contracts by helping create supporting documentation, entering information into the program database systems, facilitating the review process, and conducting contract reconciliations
  • Work with Project Managers and retained contractors to assure projects are managed in a timely manner
  • Oversee the program tracking and metrics database including: handling access rights for staff and retained contractors, training users, conducting quality assurance on data
  • Track program accomplishments and generate reports from the database system on program progress, energy savings and other impacts as requested
  • Answer questions on the program from the general public, applicants and stakeholders
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:

  • Ability to efficiently manage the project administration process and the communications between the various stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) and experience with database management systems
  • Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy in all duties
  • Ability to collect and document project requirements and successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously,
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a self-starter and function well independently and in teams
  • Excellent organizational, communication & customer service skills

Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:

  • For Assistant Project Coordinator:
    • An Associate’s degree in natural or environmental science, engineering, architecture, business, planning or related discipline or
    • An unrelated Associate’s degree plus 3 years of relevant experience as described above or
  • For Project Coordinator:
    • A Bachelor’s degree in natural or environmental science, engineering, architecture, business, planning or related discipline or
    • An unrelated Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience as described above

 

Salary
Individuals will be considered for Assistant Project Coordinator ($40,477) through Project Coordinator ($45,138) based on qualifications and experience.  An excellent benefits package with generous paid leave is also offered.

Program Manager, Quality, Standards & Compliance
Residential Efficiency and Affordability Program

Albany Office

NYSERDA seeks a Program Manager for the Residential Efficiency and Affordability Program (REAP) to develop and lead the Quality, Standards and Compliance Program Team.  The candidate must be innovative and technically credible. The Program Manager will report to the Director for Residential Efficiency and Affordability and supervise and direct the REAP Quality, Standards & Compliance Team. The Program Manager will be part of a team of Program Managers all working synergistically on related and complementary efforts. 

The Program Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Maintain robust quality assurance activity to ensure work performed through the programs is achieving quality standards
  • Work effectively with our Counsel’s Office and other Program Managers to enforce program participation, quality standards and consistently across programs
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to other Program Managers regarding technical assistance, training and other program needs that would enhance quality performance
  • Work with other regional and national organizations to develop and maintain standards that will both achieve higher levels of savings and/or performance and work effectively in the marketplace
  • Assess the impact of various codes and standards on residential one-to-four family building performance and renewable energy programs for both existing homes and new construction
  • Strengthen stakeholder relationships and encourage increased collaboration
  • Build political and organizational support for the program
  • Supervise and provide continued development of staff
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

 

Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:

  • Five years of relevant experience in energy efficiency and/or renewable energy industries with a strong understanding of building science, residential codes and standards; building construction, renovation industries, and standards development processes
  • The leadership, communication and management skills necessary to supervise and provide for continued development of professional staff, interact and manage relationships with stakeholders, oversee program budgets, and build political and organizational support for the program
  • The vision and analytical skills to lead strategic planning initiatives that are cross-cutting, forward-looking and comprehensive in nature
  • A self-starter with drive, determination, focus, and initiative who can manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preference will be given to those individuals who also possess the following:

  • Supervisory experience

Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the natural, physical, biological or environmental sciences, energy management/policy, business, public administration, political science, engineering, architecture, or a related field or
  • An unrelated Bachelor's degree and 7 years of relevant experience as described above
  • An advanced degree is a plus

The individual hired into this position will be required to complete NYSERDA’s management and/or supervisory training within their first year of employment.

Salary 
Starting from $91,096 commensurate with qualifications and experience.  An excellent benefits package with generous paid leave is also offered.

Program Manager, West Valley Site Management Program

West Valley Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) West Valley Site Management Program seeks an experienced, team oriented project and staff manager to join NYSERDA’s West Valley Site Management Program at the Western New York Nuclear Service Center in northern Cattaraugus County, New York.

This individual will be responsible for managing NYSERDA’s activities at the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP), a joint federal-state decommissioning and radioactive waste cleanup project.  This position reports to NYSERDA’s West Valley Program Director and will involve working with the Director, legal counsel and a small technical staff to develop and implement effective strategies for participation in and oversight of the WVDP.  This individual will also manage and participate in technical reviews; manage staff, develop and oversee a budget; and build relationships with the regulators, the public and other stakeholders.

Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:

  • An advanced degree in engineering, the natural or physical sciences or a related technical discipline in addition to three years of relevant technical experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in the same technical disciplines along with five years of relevant technical experience, or an unrelated Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant technical experience
  • The leadership, communication and management skills necessary to supervise and provide for continued development of professional staff, interact and manage relationships with stakeholders, oversee program budgets, and build political and organizational support for the program
  • Three years of effective staff management in a related technical environment
  • Three years of effective project management in a related technical environment
  • Experience in radioactive materials or radioactive waste

Project Manager, Process, Power and FlexTech
EES

Albany Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks a creative, independent and self-motivated individual to manage energy-efficiency and electric peak-load management projects for the Energy Efficiency Services (EES) Division in the Process, Power and FlexTech program.  The selected individual will have ongoing project management responsibilities as part of NYSERDA’s commitment to energy-efficiency and peak-demand reduction. The ideal person will have experience coordinating/overseeing energy efficiency projects for large commercial, institutional or industrial facilities.

The individual’s primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Conduct walkthroughs with technical contractors at customer facilities
  • Interact with energy services companies and curtailment service providers
  • Answer questions about NYSERDA programs and bring new customers into NYSERDA programs
  • Review applications and energy studies for completeness and technical accuracy
  • Manage contractors and projects and work with customers to find the most cost-effective strategies to reduce energy usage and demand
  • Resolve issues which may arise regarding assigned projects with applicants, contractors or consultants
  • Strengthening stakeholder relationships and encouraging increased collaboration
  • Reporting on project status and metrics
  • Participate in the evaluation of program effectiveness
  • Make recommendations for program improvements
  • Develop new solicitations
  • Present information on NYSERDA programs at professional meetings, conferences and workshops
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:

  • 4 years of relevant experience managing engineering projects &/or working with systems typically found in the commercial, industrial and institutional sectors
  • Energy-related technical knowledge of commercial, industrial, institutional sectors, and/or combined heat and power systems is desired
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to successfully multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior communication and presentation skills along with a demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups
  • Must be a self-starter and function well independently and in teams
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, mathematics, natural, physical, biological, or environmental science or

  • Project Manager, T&D and Exploratory Research

    Albany Office

    NYSERDA seeks a highly motivated technical professional to manage a broad array of technology-based projects.  The successful individual must be willing to travel 25% of the time to meet with Contractors on an ongoing basis in order to develop/maintain close professional relationships with each organization.  The position requires strong interpersonal skills and an ability to identify strategic partnerships between NYS companies, universities and government in order to maximize in-state economic development opportunities.  This position interacts on a regular basis with outside Contractors (mixture of public and privately held companies), government organizations (NYSDPS, NYSDEC), trade associations, universities, and professional technical societies.

    The successful individual will assume initial responsibility for managing a diverse set of product development and technology demonstration projects focused on the electric power sector.  Over time, the list of projects will change and the financial responsibility will likely increase.
                           
    The Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will be to:

    • Actively manage a broad range of technical projects with a clear focus on maximizing economic development.  Successful project implementation may require assisting companies with securing venture capital funds, identifying partnership opportunities with other NYS companies, providing technical guidance on how to improve product development testing, and coordinating with government agencies to proactively address potential regulatory roadblocks to technology adoption/commercialization.

    • Develop future solicitations that provide public funding in support of smart grid technologies (utility scale energy storage, distributed generation, advanced sensors and communication systems, etc.) to improve the performance of the electric power supply and delivery system in NYS.  Close coordination with the NYISO and the electric utilities is required.

    • Serve as a technical reviewer for both NYSERDA and the DOE to evaluate and assess the potential viability of commercial technologies.  The position requires a willingness to review proposals/projects across multiple NYSERDA departments in R&D, EES and EA.

    • Prepare periodic technology update reports to inform public officials about the status of advanced technologies.  These reports must be prepared in a concise fashion and convey technical information in simple form for non-technical readers.  Technical papers/reports should be submitted for strategic publication in key venues. 

    • Identify opportunities to improve/enhance program delivery.  Gather external input from key stakeholders to assess the performance of existing programs.  Proactively engage states with similar programs/mandates and determine comparative stature.

    Required minimum qualifications an individual must possess include:

    • 3 years of experience managing a broad array of technology-based projects
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a keen technical insight required to identify opportunities
    • Strong technical writing skills to create solicitations with an understanding of market demands in mind
    • Detailed understanding of technology commercialization hurdles is essential
    • An ability to objectively and accurately characterize the level of risk regarding NYSERDA’s public investment is critically important
    • A commitment to continuous program improvement is critical

    Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, Civil, or a related degree or
    • An unrelated Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience as described above
